Zach’s At-Home Studio Keeps Us Guessing: Portraiture and Characters

Zach taps a wide variety of sources that inspire his creative process. As of late, he says he’s been “trying to replicate the art of animator Don Bluth (An American Tail, The Land Before Time, etc.)” He also uses “photos of real actors as reference while designing human characters.”

For our first true open call, Make Studio invited artists who identify as invisibly disabled, and/or allies who wished to reflect on the theme, to submit work for this exhibition aimed at honoring and bringing awareness to experiences of invisible disability. The result is a dynamic and multi-faceted group exhibition including 2-D, 3-D, and performance based works, created by 15 artists in different phases of their arts practices, and featuring narratives by a selection of the artists, which delve deeper into their experiences.
